Intuition and Guidance – What Is It and How do I Use it! – Part 1

Intuition and guidance

What is it? How do I use it!

I am starting a series of posts dedicated to using your intuition and inner guidance to improve and better your life.

This is post #1!

As an intuitive healer and guide I have been exploring and deepening my use of my intuitive abilities through the years. Growing up I was always “sensitive” and could sense energies, but I did not know how to deal with them or what the sensations and feelings meant. I got easily overwhelmed. When I started to really study energy and intuition in school, it was still mysterious and muddled. I constantly doubted what I was getting. Other people seemed so confident, but I always questioned. Which is how I imagine a lot of people are out there. Using your intuition can be confusing at times. Sometimes you seem so right on! Things are flowing and feeling good. You just know the right answer. Other times you think you’re following your intuition but it seems to lead you astray.

Intuition is a messaging and information system that we use as humans to communicate to each other. It can also be used to communicate with the animal, plant and even the spiritual realms and for them to communicate with us. It’s just part of us, it’s how we’re built. We are energy and information, as is everything around us. A lot more information than you may realize! We are all walking billboards for our inner lives. I think if we realize how much people can sense from our energy fields we might give up trying to hide ourselves so much! There’s really no point.

Intuition uses senses that have been somewhat closed down in this society. In other cultures, intuition or inner knowing is just part of everyday life and culture. It’s not seen as strange or crazy as it is sometimes portrayed here. Which can be a reason why we doubt ourselves so much. It’s not considered completely “normal” to base decisions on those subtler feelings we can’t always explain. I often will like or dislike someone’s energy for no logical reason. They can be perfectly nice or outwardly pleasant. But they may just feel “bad” in some way. I can’t always explain it, but I just know it doesn’t feel good! And I’m sure if we did some real digging you could find the source of the unpleasant feelings. Lots of anger, resentment, negative or dark thoughts. I just try to remember there’s a divine being underneath the “stuff”.

As an energy healer who sends healing energy over long distances by phone or even just by email, I believe that we are all connected by a vast network of energy and information. We shouldn’t find this far fetched in a world where pictures, data and information are sent via the airwaves, invisibly, by transmitters and receivers. Our own mind, body and aura are very powerful transmitters and receivers that cover vast distances. Even some say……time.

We can tune into another person’s or location’s frequency using our astral and other senses. All of our subtle bodies have all five senses. You already do this inadvertently from time to time. You may think of someone and they call. Or you get the urge to call someone and it’s just when they needed you. I have a very strong messaging system with certain friends and family. Their names pop in to my head out of the blue, or I just pick up the phone to call and it turns out that one of us really needed something from the other. It’s astral mail!

This skill of using intuition and our guidance system can be used for many purposes. Making life decisions, deciding whether or not to pursue a relationship or leave one. It can tell you whether a job is going to work for you or not. It can alert you if someone needs your help or if they need to hear from you… what foods and activities will serve you or hurt you. Sometimes it can even save your life. Or it can even save you from an embarrassing situation! It’s very practical!

So how do you develop intuition and inner guidance so that it is serving you and not harming you? Well one way is to practice and test!

Like any system, the lines can get crossed sometimes and the system needs both use and maintenance to operate well. This takes using it……practice. The upkeep and maintenance part of it is practicing meditation. Meditation is the best and most effective maintenance for your intuitive abilities. Other moving meditations like yoga, tai chi also help. Prayer, contemplation or even long walks will also keep things running more smoothly.

Testing your guidance system is also a great thing to do in the beginning. When people first get started they are getting a lot of information that they may not be able to determine is real or not, which can be frustrating. At first your imagination will run wild. That’s normal. Over time you’ll start to feel when you get real info. You’ll know it when it happens.

When I was in energy work school one of the students got really freaked out and had a mini melt down because she started basing every little decision during her day on what her guides were telling her. Should I eat this? Yes no? Should I talk to this person? Yes or no? She was making herself crazy in the process. Most likely that was own ego messing with her. Don’t do that! Live your life. Go with the flow. As your intuition gets stronger you will just know the answer to the little things. Just take it easy and start exploring.

We all have our own way of receiving the information. Some get feelings, chills, heat. Some get actual words. Visions, dreams, and just “knowing” are other ways as well. Sometimes I just get an overwhelming urge to just DO something. Right now! That’s another way that it can show up. The classic ”don’t go down that dark alley!” is always a good one to just follow. : ) Sometimes you may just stop walking and change direction if there is danger ahead.

So if you have a question or decision to make, do a test. If you’re new to this, please start with non life-changing decisions! Start small and work into bigger things. You can ask yourself “should I do this thing?” and wait for an answer from within. What comes to you first? And remember you are exploring and learning. Have fun and don’t take every answer you get as the be-all end-all. It’s not meant to be like that! It’s guidance, you still have to decide for yourself.

You can also answer the question with “Yes I will” and see what feeling or sensations or messages you get. What sensations are you getting in your body? Did you hear or see anything? When I say see…… I mean in your mind’s eye.

Then answer the question…..”No I won’t. And wait to see what that feels like or what messages you get. You can also look at the non-intuitive logical reasons why or why you shouldn’t do this thing. If you’re spiritual you can ask your question of God and see what you get. You can run it by friends or advisors as well.

Then Act!

After you’ve made your decision, does it feel good? Do you feel at peace? Or do you feel like you made the wrong one. How does it all feel to you?

Then wait to see your outcome.

It’s good to write these things down. What was your question? How did it feel? When you said yes…no…asked God… what came to you. Hindsight is a great teacher in these matters. You can then see what the “best” answer for you was and how it felt in comparison to the feelings, messages, and sensations you received when you asked your question.

If you do this over and over you will start to develop a better sense of how you, in particular, receive information and how a “yes” feels and how a “no” feels. The answers will come to you more and more quickly.

One caveat, sometimes you may not get an answer. It may be that there is no “right” answer to the question. Either path will work, it’s just a matter of choosing. Sometimes our egos are preventing us from truly seeing what the highest and best path is. It is also more difficult to read yourself than to read someone else. Our egos and attachments get in the way… a LOT! But with time and practice you can get much better at knowing the “right” direction to go. You may still not take it. But you will know it.

One good rule of thumb when making a decision based on intuition….. always check in with your gut. Your body is your best source for your answers. There’s a reason why they call it a gut feeling. Check your belly! : )

Namaste’
